Is StageBuilder Pro really free?
Yes. You can start building in your browser without an account, and a free account (no credit card) adds one editable cloud-saved plot, PDF rider export, input and output lists, and read-only share links. Pro unlocks unlimited cloud plots and the AI Builder; Elite adds live collaboration.
What is a stage plot?
A stage plot is a diagram showing where every piece of equipment goes on stage — monitors, amps, mic stands, DI boxes, instruments, and more. Venues and sound engineers use your stage plot to prepare for your show before you arrive. A good stage plot saves time at load-in and prevents miscommunication with the house crew.
How do I make a stage plot?
Drag items from a library of 200+ production pieces onto a virtual stage, or start from a band or DJ template. Arrange your gear in real-time 3D or the 2D plan view, then export a PDF rider in one click. On Pro and above, you can also describe your setup in plain English and let the AI Builder place it for you.
Do I need an account to use the stage plot builder?
Not to start. Open the builder and your work auto-saves in your browser. A free account is needed to export the PDF, open the input and output lists, share a link, and sync your plots to the cloud so you can open them on any device.
What file formats can I export my stage plot in?
A single PDF rider with a 2D overhead plan, a grayscale tech view, a 3D view, and your input and output lists, plus an optional bill of materials and your own notes pages. The input list, output list and bill of materials also download as CSV, and an input list can be exported as a console scene file for Behringer X32 / Midas M32 or Wing, or a channel-name CSV for Allen & Heath (a prototype, so check it on the desk). Elite adds 1920×1080 PNG snapshots through any camera you place. Exports need a free account.
How does the AI Stage Plot Builder work?
Type a description, like "2 line arrays each side, 4 ground-stacked subs, FOH console at 60ft", and StageBuilder Pro places the matching items on your stage. It recognizes gear names, quantities, stage positions and common rider shorthand, and it runs entirely in your browser. You can adjust anything afterwards. The AI Builder is included with Pro, Elite and Lifetime.
How is this different from other stage plot makers?
Most stage plot software is a 2D drawing app. StageBuilder Pro renders your rig in real-time 3D, so you can orbit it, spot clashes before load-in, and view it from any angle, then print a clean 2D plan. It covers audio, lighting, video, staging and backline with 200+ items, and builds the input list from your plot. A simple band can make a straightforward plot in minutes; the production features are there when the show grows. It isn't CAD: for rigging calculations or full venue drawings, use a tool like Vectorworks.
Is there a free stage plot template I can start from?
Yes. New Plot includes starter templates for a 3-, 4- and 5-piece band and a DJ, plus preset stage sizes: concert (60×40 ft), theater (50×35 ft), arena (80×80 ft), and club (24×20 ft). Pick one, swap in your gear, and export.
Do I need to install anything?
No. StageBuilder Pro runs entirely in your browser. Open the stage plot builder, drag your gear onto the stage, and export — no downloads, plugins, or installation required.
Can I share my stage plot with my band or crew?
Yes. With a free account you can publish a read-only link to your rider that anyone can open without an account: venue managers, sound engineers, or band members. Live collaboration, where your crew edits the same plot in real time, is an Elite feature, and the people you invite join free.
